Locanda Verde

Locanda Verde opened on a quiet TriBeCa corner in 2009, and has since enjoyed wild popularity for its ambiance, urban Italian menu, and celebrity clientele. The chef and co-owner, Andrew Carmellini, would go on to build one of the most prolific and popular restaurant groups in the years that followed.

Fast forward 15 years and the right opportunity arose to put a second location at the foot of 50 Hudson Yards, Related Group’s 58-story office tower that is home to the headquarters of BlackRock and Meta. Carmellini and his partners, Robert De Niro among them, brought on Roman and Williams to design the bi-level interior space in an elegantly understated 1930s vernacular of glamor and refinement.

Also in need of refinement and expansion was the restaurant’s logo and visual identity system. The word mark was revised with a clean edge, making the bold romanesque type stand strong. A calligraphy emblem was added as a secondary element that appears on printed collateral and some of the hand-painted gilded exterior signage. The original artwork of Robert De Niro Sr. is used freely throughout the space and on the redesigned menus.
